Where's the board of health? This place has mice. And the nastiest late night crowd that has ever been assembled on the face of the Earth. Someone should find out what bar they spill out of and have it shut down. They're that bad, including fighting and really nasty mouths. A drunk woman was threatening half the place with a broken glass the last time I was there.

I always get exactly what I want. Never had bad food here. Sometimes the service is sub par.

Compared to all the diners I've visited in unassuming neighborhoods, Llanerch has, by far, the best pancakes I've tasted. We're talking about quality more akin to the snootier, more discriminating level of cafes here. I thought the other Yelpers were speaking from a native bias favoring their local hotspot due to the generous portions, but the first bite of my blueberry pancakes made me throw all those presumptions to the wind. Fluffy goodness held blueberries that oozed just the right amount of squish and firm so that bread and berry delivered harmonious, subtle amounts of sweetish comfort. The whipped, super spreadable butter made up for the prepackaged syrup. In between bites, my hands and mouth were kept busy with taking sips from the delightfully weighty Llanerch-branded coffee mug. There is something very soothing about a hot cup of very average joe in an old-fashioned ceramic cup. French toast doesn't look as impressive in size or flavor as the 3 giant pancakes, especially since the fruit comes on top. Then again, the other Yelpers have praised them along with the pancakes so I won't be a cover judger if I go back.

Super cute neighborhood diner with excellent and attentive service. I came here on a Wednesday morning with some friends and ordered breakfast/brunch. I got two eggs over easy with hash and rye toast. The eggs were done perfectly and the whole deal only set me back $4. My friends had the veggie omelet and one of the specials. Both looked amazing but the prices were a bit much for breakfast. Our server was very sweet and came by several times during our meal to check up on us--definitely a plus. I'd give this place a 4 or 5 for service, but most of the food is a bit overpriced, so I decided on a 3.

When other plans fell through, my friends and I still hopped in the car to head to The L. We were unexpectedly sober, but had late night diner food on the brain and that part of the plans wasn't going to change. The hot chocolate was a little bland, but topped with a veritable mountain of whipped cream. The meateaters got bacon, which was a bit saltier than they'd like but fried to perfection. The homefries were a little undercooked for my taste but at least weren't swimming in oil like you find in lesser diners. And the french toast. Dear heavens the french toast! Three slices that amount to half a loaf of bread and cooked just the way I like it. Usually when you order french toast with strawberries, you expect some syrupy frozen mess on top, but these were beautiful sliced berries, and enough of them that I had a slice with every bite. Even better, there was more than enough for me to take some home and have it again for breakfast. And I should mention that the radio had the most amazing mix of mid-90s music I've ever heard in one place. That might suck sometimes, but at 1 in the morning it's fun to sing along to the stuff you listened to as a kid. Let's be honest, no one goes to a 24-hour diner looking for culinary masterpieces. You go for decent food that will fill you up and help offset anything else you may have put in your body that night. The L does that for sure.

Darn I'm slow to review. Alright Sara C and Emily P, I'll review too (only because whenever we go somewhere we joke that we need to go home and yelp about it). So yes, a late late late night treat, soo good! I got the pancakes - so delic! The service was friendly and fast, the way a diner should be. Sara C is a lot more patient with the drunken fools than I could ever be, I was about to throw a fork in one of those bro's eye but I restrained myself. The staff was good about the scene, but I guess that's what they're used to. Basically I'm totally going to opt for the Llanerch over other main line diners in the future. Maybe next time I'll try something else.. but not because the pancakes weren't good.. just for variety.

So Emily P., Shilton, and I stopped by the Llanerch diner after a strange night of rooftop parties and overcrowded West Philly bars. First off, can I just say that I love the outside of this place? That ridiculous neon sign? Love it. The crowd was hilarious for a pre-Fourth of July night - everyone had to have been drunk, and plenty of obscenities were being thrown around. But that's what makes a diner. And the servers handled it with ease. I opted for eggs, turkey sausage, home fries, and toast - and it didn't disappoint. I'm fairly certain the sausage was homemade, as it was bangin'. Shilton ordered pancakes, which I stole a few bites of. They were absolutely decadent. All in all - this will have to become a regular late night pit stop again.

Decided to give this place another go after a not so great experience about a year ago. Was going to order the Chicken Parm, but changed my mind, when I saw a burger delivered to the next table. Mistake . . . ordered it medium and it came out very well done and dried out to the point it was almost inedible . . . might have been the toughest burger I've ever had. If you can't cook a decent burger, you probably can't cook much else well. Might try for breakfast sometime, but not dinner again. The service was okay, and it wasn't the fault of the waitress. And, it was clean. Ordered a drink as well. I guess there was some Scotch in it somewhere, but hard to tell.

The Llanerch is my favorite of the Main Line diners. Yes, even with the new ownership (which ain't so new anymore). The food hits the spot when you need grease, the inside is always grey and poorly lit, and the service is average. But man, just writing this review, I'm craving one of their omelettes with some home fries. Mmm... omelette. Also very good for late night chats. Excellent pie, and remarkable hot chocolate. The Llanerch made for some very memorable summer evenings.

Always a great place late at night. Five stars just for the onion rings, which are the best I've had anywhere. They chop up the onions and dump it into the batter itself.

Much nicer after all the remodeling which was needed desperately. Food is very good and reminds me of how this diner was when i was growing up. Whenever I am in Havertown I try to stop in.

This diner has changed owners multiple times. However, the most recent owner seems to figured out the right combination on how to finally make it right. The only thing missing from the last ownership (that I really really miss) is the "Big L" chicken filet sandwich. It makes me sad that I will never be able to sink my teeth into that mouth watering delight. Oh well. This new owner has renovated the place removing the booth walls, changing the lighting and installing 2 flat screen TVs The biggest difference is that there is no smoking before 9PM...YA-HOO!!!!! If you don't want to wait to eat, my recommendation is to avoid Saturday and Sundays from 9am until about 2pm. It is usually packed inside those times and you will definitely end up waiting at least 5-10 minutes. The service is generally very good. It is usually quick any time of the day even in the busier times. The food is pretty good and the portions are big so bring your appetite! But I am still very sad about the " Big L".

It's a decent diner. They serve the usual diner entrees. I got my usual, a tuna melt. It was serviceable. My friend raved that her soup was delicious. In an area where diners are rare, this would be a comforting place. But there are lots of good diners in this region. This is one of them. If you are in the vicinity, it's a fine place to eat. But not a place to go out of your way to visit.

I'll level with you. There's no way I'd love this diner if the City Star Diner, which was closer to St. Joe's, hadn't closed after my junior year of college. Ultimately, that event led to me and my friends' love of the Llanerch. Foodwise, it's a diner. It ain't great, it ain't terrible, it's just there. It's there to fill whatever food need you may have at 3 am. Of course, at the time, it also filled the need to smoke tons of cigs, which you can't do anymore, but whatever. It's all about coffee, food (good or bad), and foggy late night memories.

  • Erik L.

The food is, on average, what you would expect from a diner. Some items like the French toast or cheesesteaks are good. The pancakes are always dry, though. IE. They dehydrate you and syrup or butter will not help. I always go after midnight and have not had this problem but have seen the servers ignore customers for long periods of time after they are seated. All in all, it's a fine diner to unwind with friends but not my first choice.

I wish I was able to fully review this diner, but after receiving our drinks from waiter "Ryan", neither he nor anybody else came back to take our order. After 10-15 minutes, we paid for our sodas and left. I have lived in the area for 3 years and always wanted to try this diner. Bad first impression~ we won't be back. The food LOOKED good, though....

llanerch is the best diner around. i have been there at all hours of the day and night and it is never empty, though weekend nights it gets a little rowdy. french toast is a MUST ORDER. it might be the best in the world. it was a late night staple while i was in college on the main line and now my boyfriend and i drive from the city just to go here. great prices and great french toast. end of review.

Nice little 24 hr place. Pretty cool, and better than average food, with some interesting twists. I think its a Greek slant to everything. THe waffles with ice cream was funny to see late night, one time i was there. My wife got the vegetarian phily steak another time, her mistake, and was sorely disappointed. Frozen veggies with cheese in a sub roll, I was cracking up but her, not so much. Good hearty diner fare, but nothing stood out above the rest. A solid standby in times of need for late night nourishment.

This diner looked promising and based on word of mouth, we decided to try it. I don't know if we caught them at a bad time or what but the service and the food was subpar. It might have been the fact we arrived with a party of eight may cause things to go awry. The waitress was not attentive at all, only stopping by to drop off the drinks and later the food only never to be heard from again. The food was cold, overcooked, or not cooked enough and when we needed the waitress, we had to get up from our seats to get somebody to help us. The manager was this bleached blonde lady with the year-round tan was less than helpful. She did knock off a few bucks to accommodate us for the lack of service and cold food but did it in a way that made us question her management skills. She was demeaning to us and treated us like crap. Since I'm a sucker for diners, I would come back as a party of two, not eight. I believe the food quality is there, just waited too long to get it served. Had it been a normal day with just the two of us, we would have given it more stars.

After a long night, or early morning, there is nothing like greasy, unhealthy diner food to help absorb the bucket of alcohol sloshing around in your stomach and the Llanerch Diner is the perfect place to wind down. The atmosphere is great; it's the type of place where the waitress calls you "hon" and the clinking and clanging of the pots and pans in the kitchen provide a unique soundtrack to accompany whatever is playing on the radio. The food is what you expect from any greasy spoon, a plethora of fried foods, breakfasts and munchies, they do offer dinner entrees, but I have never been bold enough to order any. I preferred the older, dumpier version of the Big L compared to what they have now. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good place, but I just liked the idea of a dive-hole with a revolving door of characters that they had before the renovations. Still good, but I guess that the remodeling was a legal necessary.

My Mother told me this is her favorite spot while in Philly and I sure know why! I was greeted by a very kind young lady who sat us down and gave such great customer service. I ordered a Hungry Man breakfast special, when it arrived I was like woahhhh that's alot of food! House frys, eggs, sausage and pancakes were all on point, very delicious. I haven't tried anything from the dinner side but I could already know it must be good! I would recommend people to check this out if your in the area and looking for a good bite to eat! -M.S.-

This over-half-a-century-old diner has some interesting history. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. came here for dinner one evening after a service at Garrettford Baptist Church, his first meal in an all-white diner. A scene from the movie "Silver Linings Playbook" was also shot at this location. You can sit in the booth in which Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper sat if available. This diner often finds its way onto those Philadelphia-area, must-try lists. It's always interesting to know the background of a business. I've been here a handful of times over the last ten years or so, and I would characterize the food as A-OK, 3 out of 5 stars with consistent taste and plentiful portions. The ambiance to me wavers from 2 to 3 stars depending on the amount of customers and where you sit in the restaurant. For example, Sunday mornings can be crowded and sitting toward the back in the two-person booths is cramped to put it politely, and the waitstaff is sometimes stretched thin; whereas, an early weekday morning sitting in the four-person booths is less cramped with better service. That's been my experience. The price is a little high. The place recently started serving alcohol if that's your thing. I come here maybe once or twice a year at most. While I am not a huge fan, I can definitely say that there is a devoted local following for Llanerch who will probably keep it in business for another 50 years.

The food was okay. I do not believe this diner lives up to the hype. I got a short stack of banana pancakes. The pancakes were dense and did not have many bananas. The pancakes were pretty small, too, compared to normal diner pancakes. The service was terrible. Our waitress was not friendly and two of her tables got up and left throughout my time there. She was un-attentive and not very personable. The only reason I am giving this diner two stars is the atmosphere. The diner is really old, but I think it gives it character. The coffee mugs were chipped and authentic.

Visited: Thursday - June 4, 2015 - 9:30PM This is a 24/7 diner and MOST of the desserts on the menu were unavailable. I settled for one of the two desserts remaining; Cherry pie. The pie and the coffee however, were good. The server was pleasant but never inquired if we wanted a coffee refill or if we enjoyed our dessert. Frankly, it's dingy, dark, and depressing. I only visit about every 6 months thinking it won't be worse or just to change-it-up. I've visited many times and on a "good" day a 3-star review is merited; tonight, no better than 2-star. See ya in 6 months.

Horrible. Once I reminded the waitress that the kid's meal comes with jello, she went back to get some. They didn't have any, so they suggested rice pudding. I said sure, and they gave my daughter a huge bowl of rice pudding. Not sure how many bites she ate before telling me it tastes lemony. I took a bite and turns out it's a tub full of way off, sour, disgusting old rice pudding. I told the waitress and she just brought out some am-I-just-being-paranoid-now-or-has-this-also-gone-bad-cuz-it-tastes-sort-nasty-too ice cream. No apology or dollar off or anything. Now I'm sitting here listening in the middle of the night, hoping not to hear the sounds of food poisoning come from my daughter's bedroom. Thanks Llanerch.

Diners are everywhere on the East coast and they are better than any diner I've found thus far in CO. Llanerch is located a mile from my old house in PA and was the destination of many nights out with family and friends. It's a 24 hour diner with a small book as a menu, serving breakfast all day, overly friendly servers, and was highlighted in the recent movie, Silver Linings Playbook (must watch if you haven't already). Llanerch is a local neighborhood hot spot and is bustling in the morning serving breakfast and hot coffee to everyone that passes through. Need a 2am burger, can't sleep, want an omelet, Llanerch will satisfy all your cravings. The food is classic diner fair, nothing extravagant or mind altering. They have a little bit of everything, eggs, pancakes, club sandwiches, pasta, burgers, and so much more. You can easily eat here for under $12 and leave with a box of leftovers. Visiting Llanerch on my most recent trip back to PA was like a trip down memory lane and my turkey club sandwich hit a spot I didn't even know I had. Whether it's an All American breakfast or late night munchies, Llanerch takes care of me every time.

I ate at this lonely dusty sad looking outdated diner this morning and I will NOT be returning. The service was VERY slow and there was only one other couple dining in the place at the time. The two servers looked pretty sad, no smiles, no pleasantries exchanged just really dry and unwelcoming. The female server ( white lady) starred me down while I ate my meal it was so bizarre and uncomfortable. They were playing music which was way too loud. The lady then got up and changed the music selection to some ratchet rap music where every third verse was nigger this and nigger that bitch this and fuck that.. My guess is she figured it's 3 black patrons this must be what they listen to??? She turned it up even louder and walked outside. I asked the male server a young Caucasian male if he enjoyed listening to that music because I did not. He was visibly embarrassed and made a comment that she thinks this is a club. I cannot stress enough how bad this experience was, very disappointed : (

This place is excellent! Many menu options but the key west salad is sent from heaven! Portions are very generous. My salad served as lunch and dinner. Reasonable prices and good services. This place is a gem.

While they have a large menu which is nice, the delivery service is horrible. The first time we ordered from them they were prompt and fairly nice. However the last three times we have ordered from them they have screwed up our order, returned and still screwed up the order after we told them it was screwed up, argued with us over the cost, and at one point tried to extort money from us claiming we were "out of range" and that they wanted more money, despite ordering from them numerous times in the past and being literally 5 minutes drive away. I don't know if this is just their night crew or what, but they seriously either need to fix this or get rid of their delivery "service."

I grew up in Havertown and always thought that the food at the Llanerch Diner was always just your generic diner food, but this past week I was proven wrong. There was only 2 waitresses to cover 5 tables between them, but somehow my waitress seemed to find herself overwhelmed handling two tables. It took her 15 minutes to come over to even get my drink order. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan Dinner with a side of broccoli and mashed potatoes with gravy. Despite asking my waitress 3 times for the cup of soup that came with my meal, she never brought out the soup. After waiting 25 minutes after initially ordering my meal, my chicken parm came out burnt and dried out to a crisp. I was struggling to cut the chicken with the steak knife I was given. My waitress passed by 3 times and never stopped by the table despite my attempts at calling her over. I had to walk over to her reading a newspaper at the diner counter and ask her if I could have another chicken parm cooked because the chicken I was served was more like chicken jerky than a chicken parm. She took my plate back to the kitchen and brought out a new chicken parm. In that time, I ate my terribly overcooked and unseasoned broccoli and couldn't touch the mashed potatoes because the gravy had some sort of black chunks that clearly didn't belong. The chicken parm wasn't dried out or burnt this time, but it lacked any flavor whatsoever. The sauce was watery and just tasted like someone took tomato paste and mixed a bunch of water to make a sauce. Already an hour and 15 minutes into my meal, I gave up on eating my meal and I left hungry. I know I will never be a patron of this diner ever again when there are so many other dining options in the Havertown/Upper Darby area.

The food there is amazing. However, the reasoning behind the three stars is the male owner that is such an aggressive, rude hobbit. Rather than greeting us at the door with a smile, he aggressively asks us how many people and screaming at his workers in front of the customers. Clearly, he's in this for only the money. If it were up to me, I wouldn't even bother going there but seeing how the workers there always greet us with a smile and asks professionally, I know my money is going to them, not him.

I visited today, a Monday morning at about 10am. There were probably about 10 people seated. I was seated immediately and brought a glass of water. My waitress greeted me shortly after and I ordered a coffee and my meal. I can't remember the name of what I had, and it doesn't seem to be listed on the menu online. It had two tortillas, eggs, black beans, cheese, and salsa, with homefries on the side. Both my coffee and my meal were delicious. I was checked on throughout my meal and was given a coffee refill when I was low. My server was very nice and attentive. Ill definitely be back and would recommend this location for a quality breakfast and friendly service.

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the menu. There were so many items I wanted to try, and they were reasonably priced. I will be back.

They came through on my order. Everything was perfect. We asked for specific changes to some items and they did exactly what we wanted. They did take over an hour and 15minutes to deliver and were very rude on the phone. We asked how much it all came out to and the man said he would call us back in a few. We had to call back 30 minutes later and got sassed by some phone girl. They were also kinda pricey for a diner in my opinion. And their bagels were more like a roll textured bagel than an actual bagel. Their "home fries" we're also just boiled potatoes ripped up with no flavor. But nonetheless they were, again, on point with our order and did not mess up what we ordered just the delivery time really.

This place used to be amazing but has since died down drastically. I ordered food the other day. They gave me the wrong food - soggy fries when I asked for onion ring. I payed for extras like a pretzel buns and cheese. When they called to tell me that they didn't have the bus and would change the order, they didn't. I got charged 5 dollars extra for food I didn't receive. The food arrives cold. When I asked to speak with the the manager they passed the the phone off twice to someone who could barely speak English. They said they would give me a 10 dollar credit on grub hub and never followed through. For years I would go once or twice a month. This is the last time I'm going. This place garbage. The delivery driver copped an attitude with me once i called to complain. They did nothing to correct the problem the had caused. This place is a joke and does not deserve to be called a business. It's a 2 cent racket pioneered by a bunch of clowns.

Everything outside of breakfast is positively disgusting. Everything tastes frozen and old. Another case of way too many menu items with none of them done correctly. Service is hit or miss. Has been mostly miss for us. Manager (owner?) has a lackadaisical attitude and is arrogant.. over what I will never figure out. This is overpriced slop food. I'd sooner eat at burger king across the street.

This used to be my favorite diner at one time, and I thought it would be a good idea to bring my wonderful wife here for the breakfast. That day turn into a bad joke on me. I had a waitress start out nice seating us, but quickly turned into a destructive lack of service. I received a chipped coffee mug, not once, but twice. Lack of attention towards our table. An I felt as though I was in the wrong place, and very unwelcome, and uncomfortable.

It will do if you are in a pinch and everything else is closed. I came in a bit before 9, ordered an item on the menus that said "served between 11-9", she took my order and came back and told me that if she put this in now there won't be enough time for the kitchen to make it. It was 9:02. All I ordered was pasta with chicken. So I ordered pasta and meatballs from opposite side of the page. I'll say this, the servers are super nice, polls and professional. The food is ok for being a 24 hour dinner. Go a bit too late and you get annoying drunk people, loud and obnoxious.

I don't know what these negative reviews are about. It's a diner-- were you expecting Stephen Starr or something? I'm giving this diner 4 stars, which is honestly the highest rating I can give a diner, because YES, it is still diner food. However, this place delivers: My boyfriend and I go here only for a dirty diner breakfast and that classic dirty diner coffee and that's exactly what we are given. I can see why they chose this place to film the scene in Silver Linings Playbook; this diner just embodies the perfect mediocre, small town, not-overdone diner feel (even if the movie promotion there is a bit much.) That's the beauty of diners. That's why we love going here and that's what keeps bringing us back. Anyone who complains about diner food being anything less than, well, diner food, needs a reality check. The service is warm and friendly, another aspect of this place that brings us back. Also, they're always open when everywhere else is closed because of snow! We appreciate your dedication, Llanerch!

Came here for a late breakfast and only then realized a movie was filmed here. We were in the area and decided to grab diner food and came upon this place. Someone we were with saw the movie, Silver Linings Playbook and knew this was the diner they filmed in (I haven't seen the movie yet), so I guess that was an added novelty. The parking lot is a bit of a pain in the front and the place is not overly large, but when we got inside we were comfortable. The menu was diner standard and I ordered the 'Hungry Man Breakfast', which was basically a sampling of pancakes, home fries, toast, eggs, and sausage (or bacon). While waiting, we noticed that they did sell Silver Linings Playbook merchandise....which included a mug, mini-football, and t-shirt (which was one of the waitresses was wearing. Can't blame the place for trying to make a little money from the small fame they had and the display was pretty prominent. The waitresses were pretty friendly and the food was a little above average as far as diner food goes (most diners taste the same) and the pricing was just about standard for a diner, so no surprises for the visit. Overall, with or without the movie part, this is a cozy place to have a meal and feel comfortable. If you frequent diners, the experience here will be the norm and the food with taste about how you expect it should or would, though I have been to worse diners certainly. If you're a movie buff, certainly this is a place you should stop by if you happen to be in the area.

I'd give this place 5 stars for food, and 1 star for service. Everything on the menu is very good for a diner, whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner. However, you'll often get something other than what you ordered. The staff is also pretty slow and at times can be unpleasant. And don't even think about ordering take out over the phone. They are EXTREMELY rude on the phone.

I visited Llanerch Diner for the first time last week since I recently moved to the area. I chose this diner since they advertised free wifi and I needed to get some work done at 1 am (I work the night shift so it's slim pickings when it comes to accommodating establishments). Unfortunately my experience was extremely poor. The service was AWFUL. My waitress brought me my coffee and when I said I wanted some time to look over the menu it was easily 20 minutes before she returned. Once she brought me my food she was nowhere to be found, not even to check on me or refill my drink. After about an hour I heard her on the other side of the diner having an audible argument with another waitress. I don't know if it was the end of her shift or she was just pissed off, but my waitress left the the building after that. No one else came to check on me so it seemed as though I was on my own. I had to flag down one of the other waitresses to get a refill and when I was ready to leave I had to walk up to the counter to get my check. Something else happened that I must point out. A group of five 20-somethings walked in around 1:30 - CLEARLY inebriated and borderline belligerent - and the waitress still served them 2 rounds of drinks. I was shocked. Nice to see this establishment upholding the law. The food? I had a turkey club and the turkey was severely dry and drenched in mayo, I assume in an attempt to compensate for said dryness. The fries were typical diner fries. The coffee was good... that's about the only positive thing I have to say about this place. Would I go back to Llanerch? Maybe... if solely for the fact they're open 24/7 and have wifi available. At least now I know what to (or not to) expect. Oh, and I'll bring a jacket. It was absolutely freezing from all the drafty windows.

Although I usually don't partake here, I do enjoy a diner with a liquor license. The Llanerch feels like it hasn't been updated in decades, which I say a nostalgic compliment. It's open 24/7 which is great when you're looking for some comfort food after being stuck at work late. The downside would be the bros that tend to pop up weekend late nights, still buzzed from club and barking a waitresses. I've never had dinner here, but the breakfast is solid. The pancakes are fluffy, and the omelettes are cooked firm with generous amounts of toppings. It hasn't really changed much after it was shown in Silver Linings Playbook. The menu looks the same, and the waitress staff is still an unpredictable mix of gregarious and surly. Expect waits on Sunday mornings

It's solid. Needs to have some more consistency with the service, but the food has been top tier in my experience.

I have lived in Upper Darby most of my life. I and my family have all eaten here many times over the years I went here last month with my gf. We each ordered pancakes , 1 drink, some meat as a side, It cost about 50% more than any other diner in the area for breakfast The service wasnt great- I had to wait 14 minutes for my waitress to refill my drink and it wasnt even free refills( hint. dont get the apple juice- its $$$) The food wasnt bad but it wasnt great Also the new owners think they are going to get rich playing off the film "Silver Linings Playbook" gimmick with T-shirts with the logos of the film on it. as well as selling expensive mugs with the name of the film on it. Its truly a disgusting sight to behold. The movie wasnt that good. and the only reason why anyone cares about this low budget independent film is one of the actresses- Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress( and to be honest even though shes a great actress- her portrayal didnt deserve the award) They raised the prices just because this restaurant was in the film. They are milking this for every DIME! Not recommended.

Famous for there showcase on "The Silver Linings Playbook" They sport a labeled booth where Bradley Cooper sat. Weekends are busy at this place. They do a good breakfast. I havn't sopped by for lunch here, but they look like they have an extensive sandwich menu that I will try the next time I stop by.

We checked this diner out because the best scene in THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK was filmed here. While the place is not fancy... it serves some incredible meals. This is definitely quality diner food!!!! The service was also clean and professional. I will definitely be going back.

Went there after church on Saturday, not having seen the movie, just was going to a place close to my church in Havertown. The place was horrible. I will never go there again even though it was convenient. I asked for eggs over medium and not only was the yolks runny the whites were runny. I ordered scrapple and it did not come out with the eggs. Since the server never checked back with me I had to ask for it myself later. The pancakes looked inedible so I did not even try them especially since they did not have real maple syrup but some kind of Smucker's breakfast syrup which is nothing but corn syrup. Service was slow and never checked back. The girl at the register had enough sense then to not ask me how things were. I guess they got tired of hearing "bad" as an answer so they no longer ask.

The Llanerch Diner is a great place to go any time of day. They're open 24 hours, like most good diners. My favorite is the open faced reuben. Probably the best reuben I've ever had. They also have a great selection of pies and cakes. You must try the half-cheesecake, half- chocolate mousse cake, you won't be disappointed. I think they're a little on the pricier side for a diner, but the food is good so it's definitely worth a visit.

Horrible experience. From the moment we sat down we were disappointed. The server was rude and didn't write down our order. It was no surprise when our food came out wrong. The server was mad that I asked her to correct my order. She also kept trying to fill up a diet coke with ice tea. She didn't come back to check on us and the old man cashier didn't say a word as he took our money. Not only is this some of the worst service I've ever experienced, it was some of the greasiest food I've ever seen. Not to mention how incredibly rude the staff was. The busser was trying to put a case of champagne away and asked us to move to the side to put it on the counter. The problem is, there is only one little spot to sign your credit card receipt and that exact spot is where the busser had to put the champagne right that second. She was mad that we were in her way and she couldnt wait one minute for us to sign. I can't say enough about how horrible this place is. I will never return.

So after the whole Silver Lining Playbook and Oscar ordeal I like many had to check out this diner. I can actually say that I was quite impressed. I thought it was going to be overrated. The diner itself was smaller looking than I thought it would be. They should a couple souvenirs as well. We came on a Sunday afternoon. Of course there was a wait but it wasn't long at all. Even tho I can I only eat a few things off the menu, the rest of the menu was unique from many other diners I thought. Sweet potato pancakes, creative omelettes, standard dinner foods, sandwiches. I opted for the veggie sandwich in a roll with minestrone soup. Sandwich was good, nothing different from anywhere else I can get the same thing. The minestrone soup was actually delicious. Homemade. Would I come back? Prob not since I'm not from this area but it was def nice to check out after all the movie hype.

The food is mediocre at best and overpriced for a diner. Staff is generally unprofessional and unattentive. If it is crowded the rush the hell out of you to leave. The Greek guy who appears to be the manager or owner is a miserable and rude. This is the worst Diner in the Philadelphia area now that the Aramingo Diner has closed.

Pre Silver Linings Playbook Rating - 3.5 stars Post Silver Linings Playbook Rating - 1 star This place used to be slightly above average for a diner now since it's gone all Hollywood (lol), the place has gone down the drain. Becca and I used to come here all the time mostly before our yelping days, and thought it was fine but never really had a bad experience here. Than we went to Springfield Diner and realized it beat this place on every level, better parking lot, service, food, price. So we didn't go back. Since the movie came out we took my mom here to show her where they filmed the movie and sat in a booth for 15 mins and got no service we left and no one noticed. Last time we went our waitress was having a conversation so loud with the booth behind me we couldn't even hear each other. Also another waitress was having a profanity laced convo with another customer so loud the whole diner could hear. I personally wasn't offended or anything but there were kids around (man I sound old) not cool in my opinion. The food isn't great just average and service and overall experience here is bad now. Guess they feel like tourists will always be able to talk about that time they went to the Silver Linings Diner and got terrible service.

I've decided to update my review of this place now that it has gone Hollywood. But the one thing I've noticed since my last review here two years ago is the lack of consistency in the reviews here since then. Man, some of you really bashed this place! I was stunned, honestly. But maybe some of you have a point. If there's one thing I've learned about diners is that they're hard to really pin down on quality. In general, because most of them turn over staff so much, and because they have so many dishes on the menu, and because they have to staff their place for so many hours, it's just hard to know what you're going to get. I could have had a great experience there at 10am on a Sunday, raved about it to you, and you go there at 6pm on Thursday when it has completely different people working the place, and then it sucks. Diners do that to you. All I can tell you is what I can tell you. And what I can tell you is that personally, the Llanerch Diner has never let me down. For instance, today at 3pm at the counter, I had excellent waitress service. I had a cup of chicken soup with large chunks of chicken in it. I had a pretty fresh cup of coffee. I had a turkey special on rye where the bread was soft, the turkey was fresh and plentiful, and the Russian Dressing was tangy. Total bill was $9.90. I left pretty happy. It has made me happy every time I've been there. And I can't say that about every diner I've been to, even some of my favorite ones. Sure, maybe some of the menu items are a couple bucks more expensive than other places of similar ilk. Some aren't too bad. Depending on what you order, your experience may vary. I find that breakfast is most consistent here. Oh, by the way, now that it has been featured in the movie Silver Linings Playbook, they've decided to take advantage of that. Yes, on top of being able to sit at the booth that Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence sat at, you may now buy your own Llanerch Diner mug with the Silver Linings Playbook logo on it at the counter (the display is positioned conveniently right across from that booth). Also, there's a Silver Linings Playbook t-shirt, and even your own mini Silver Linings Playbook football to purchase. Oh please, tell me this place won't become a tourist trap if the movie wins an Oscar! Please, please, please!

Will wonders never cease! The lovely wife and I just stopped in for a late dinner and behold; this Havertown institution now has a beer and wine license. The refrigerated glass case that normally holds the cakes and pies now is half full of bottled beer. Now that's my kind of desert case! Our waiter said they've had their license about two weeks. It's just the basics and bottles only. Bud, Michelob, Heineken, and two or three others. They are offered for $3 and change depending upon the brand. This has the potential of changing the crowd here. It's going to be interesting to see how it develops.

This diner was known long before it was featured in the movie "Silver Linings Playbook". I think they have good , quality food and the diner coffee is good, as well. The staff is always very friendly. They are still open 24/7 which is really nice for those inneed of amidnight snack.

This restaurant is awful. I would not recommend this to anyone. There are much better diners in the Greater Philadelphia region. The owner is EXTREMELY rude, he skipped over us while we were waiting in the lobby, and then made it seem like our fault. Once we were seated, our waitress was very nice, but they are just so distracted and have too many responsibilities. They clearly need to hire more help. Once our food came, it was more disappointment. My omlette was watery, and the hashbrowns were dry. My boyfriend's french toast was barely cooked. It was cool to see the diner because it was in Silver Linings Playbook, but I would never tell anyone it's worth it to eat here. If the food was better, it still wouldn't be worth it to deal with the awful, rude owner.

We've ordered breakfast delivered multiple times over the last 6 months. Each time the delivery has become slower & the food worse. This was the last time we'll be ordering. 90 minutes for delivery...and when it arrived, it was cold. The wrap I ordered was placed in the same container as my side of grits. The wrap was covered in grits. The french toast we ordered was still raw in the center. It was completely inedible. This used to be a wonderful breakfast spot years back. The new owners have ruined it.

Confused over the one and two star reviews of this suburban tradition. Been going here on and off for decades and the food has always been really good Diner food. It's hands down in the top 3 places in DELCO for breakfast when quality and value are the criteria. And thankfully it's still good for lunch and dinner as it's up west Chester pike in broomall diner competitor isn't even in the running anymore. Breakfast, lunch or dinner the quality and value is great. Heard a rumor once MLK ate here in the 60s. Unsure if it's true but if so would add to it's charm. Yes it is remodeled now and serves liquor. WooHooo. Worth a visit for really good diner fare.

I wish there was a star lower than 1. The only item that wasn't dreadful was the cole slaw. My burger was supposed to be medium well but was dry and well over well done. The fries were soggy and nasty, and tasted way worse than frozen fries. They forgot the onion rings and when I reminded them they brought the soggy onion rings in a bowl of oil. My moms sandwich had MOLDY BREAD! It's was also fried (greasy and soggy as well) but the menu said that it was grilled! We sat in the seat from the movie and it was extremely uncomfortable. Our waiter was great but some employees were yelling and on their phones. Maybe they had an off day.

Llanerch is an OK diner best known for appearing in Silver Linings Playbook. The food is great when you're drunk (open 24/7). Otherwise hit or miss. Sweet potato pancakes are good. Ask for homefries well done or extra crispy

Weak sauce (or, in this case, no sauce) ----------------- Sorry, this place just doesn't cut it. There are so many better diners up in central Jersey than this place. Here's a tip - when I order a Reuben burger (for almost $10), you better make sure there's at least one slice of pastrami in it. And where on earth was the Russian dressing? Sauerkraut and Swiss alone do not make it a Reuben! Weak. It gets the second star because it's 24/7.

You must be drunk to eat here! I know this is a diner and one night against my better judgement I ordered non-breakfast fare from here. We wound up spending 42 bucks and it was the biggest waste of money ...I might as well have just put my money through a shredder. Our food was completely inedible. We got Mushroom caps and oddly enough it was more "crab imperial" than mushroom. The shrooms were black and shriveled...not a good sign, these were not porcini's. The imperial tasted like chicken parm...bleh. We also ordered the potato skins, these were a grey brown color and they were large russets, something you'd use for a baked potato instead. Another plate the hot open faced turkey...which btw any self respecting diner should have aced had a funky taste to the gravy...something i really can't describe...the turkey had more fat than a rib eye. The rice pilaf I got with the open faced turkey was honestly the best thing about my meal and it was obviously from a frozen bag. Also got the french onion soup that was ALMOST edible but it had WAAAAAYYYY too much onion powder in it. I wasn't even going to write a review, in all honesty i only review places after I've eaten there a few times but now I have a nauseous stomach and bad gas and I'm PRETTY SURE it was from this garbage. STAY AWAY!!

I can't believe I've never reviewed this place. I have been coming here for 40 years and I still get the snapper soup every time, breakfast, lunch or dinner. Recently, the food has been really good! Its not fine dining, but if you appreciate American diner and deli cooking, you can totally scratch that itch at the Big L. Turkey open face with gravy and mash. Cheesesteak and fries. Fried flounder. Breakfast for dinner. Dinner for breakfast. Breakfast and dinner at 2am. Big fresh salads. Good coffee and my personal benchmark for snapper soup makes this a standard go-to when we can't agree where to go .. to. Its like a Carb Carnival, but its a diner for goodness sake. Service can be hit or miss. It can seem a little creepy inside with all the Silver Lining marketing stuff, flat screens and music pumping. I miss the classic diner waitresses of my youth. Today's yoga pants and black tee shirts detract from the overall diner thing for me. All the same, when we want a quick reliable munch nearby, the Big L at the corner of Township Line and Darby is where we head.

Went with a friend who knew about the diner but this was my first time there. As soon as you walked in the environment was just welcoming. We were immediately greeted and seated. Our server, Marcus, who was SOOO FRIENDLY and a breath of fresh air, had some good menu recommendations with a whole heaping side of humor. My friend got the steak medium rare of which he loved and I got a Texas burger that was WOW! I am a fry girl and these beer battered type fries were OFF THE METER GOOD! Can't forget about the corn dish with red peppers in it. MMMMM! MMMMMM! GOOD! Needless to say that we will be back there to try other menu items, more of Marcus' humor and those desserts I had no room for (THEY WERE HUMONGOUS PORTIONS!). GREAT STAFF! GREAT PLACE!

It's a shame. The place is a landmark, but my experiences there have been far from positive. Service is poor, food is average. Walked out tonight after waiting too long after being seated. Third strike. Three tries, three poor service experiences. We won't be hurrying back. Too many good alternatives in the area.

Well, it's a diner. I know they are all the rage out here, but I never quite got the appeal...it baffles me how any one place with a tiny kitchen can turn out *amazing* food that ranges from greek to american to italian to mexican and a menu of a couple hundred items. That's because it's never amazing food...but it's usually pretty good if you stick to basics. Open 24/7...fast and friendly service. We've loved our waitresses every time we go in. Seems like lots of regulars frequent this place as well. It gets crowded about 9:30am for weekend breakfast so get in there early. I prefer coming here for breakfast. The strawberry waffle was surprisingly good, bacon nice and crispy...scrambled eggs though reminded me of a Vegas buffet, aka not great. Chocolate chip pancakes were amazing though.... kept stealing them off my son's plate. Good coffee. Passable Greek food..interesting take on the gyro. My husband loved his eggs benny. OJ is not fresh squeezed but most likely Minute Maid with some type of pulp. Overall a solid place for a quick bite or even just for people watching. You can't beat a great place to get pancakes or a waffle. Oh and yeah they filmed a scene from Silver Linings Playbook here, you'll see it repped on the staff's t-shirts and their coffee mugs.

This review is solely based on the diner's delivery service; we've eaten in the diner previously and it was fine. When we found out they delivered we were excited since we live right down the road (a literal 2 minute drive). So, this morning, we decided to give their delivery service a go! We called in an order of the cheese blintzes and the township special at 9:30. We were on a bit of a time crunch but we were sure we had left enough time to eat and begin our day. We were so wrong. We didn't get our food until 11:00... yes, an hour and a half later! When we opened our terribly packaged food (the chocolate milk leaking out everywhere), we were met with cold food. Not room temperature food, not "oh, I can tell that this was once warm" food, but cold food. It had clearly sat for a long time and eggs over-easy are almost inedible cold. We were SO disappointed and had to now rush through a cold breakfast. NEVER ORDER DELIVERY FROM THIS DINER. Absolutely terrible.

Been here millions of times! Definitely a great place to relax with friends - make sure you're there when Marcus is working - he is the best! Watch what time and day you go though - too late on a Friday night and it's full of drunk people all taking "selfies" in the "booth from that movie."

The Llanerch Diner has been in business for a long time. I can remember going there as a young child for Sunday dinner with my parents. Having so many good memories makes it very difficult to write this review. We were not impressed. Headed to Llanerch for Sunday breakfast. The business has clearly changed hands and the new ownership has done a lot to clean and brighten this old diner girl. The new "tin" ceiling is nice and the diner is much cleaner than it's been in previous years. Six of us were seated promptly. Our server also arrived promptly and cheerfully took both our drink & breakfast orders, no problem. The good: Service, cleanliness. Frozen Hot Chocolate is pretty darn yummy. Chocolate Chip Pancakes got eager thumbs up from the kids. The "meh": Belgian Waffle was decent as was the pork roll. Nothing to write home about, but not bad. Bacon was inconsistently cooked - one serving was crispy and the other barely-done chewy. The bad: Wallpaper paste chipped beef - Darling Husband actually lifted out a glob of flour. You have to STIR the cream, folks. Also missing that savory taste that makes SOS delicious. Oatmeal was very thick and served without milk. Good for a facial, not so good for breakfast. The ugly: Crashing plates behind us as the next table was cleared actually stopped conversation it was so loud. No surprise that pretty much all their plates and cups are chipped, huh? I think their busboy has anger issues. Lastly, it's on the pricey side for diner food. They have a sign that advertises "Free WiFi" but their network was secured and we could not find a password anywhere to log on. Not sure what the deal was there. I am glad to see this old girl getting some care and maybe it's just that breakfast isn't their strong suit. We might give dinner a go sometime to see how it compares. It's off the breakfast club list though. *sigh*

Waitress was pleasant. My fellow diners seemed to enjoy their food though side dishes were mixed up and salads forgotten. My spanakopita (spinach pie) was horrible and the next day my stomach is suffering. Advertised on the menu as "flaky" phyllo, I confirmed with the waitress that it is baked, not microwaved (as is done in many diners but which destroys the phyllo dough). Everyone else's food arrives -- "What did you order?" asks the waitress. Minutes later my plate is presented -- a soggy, lukewarm mess. My guess is they forgot my order and microwaved it. I pointed this out to the waitress and she offered to take it back, but since my fellow diners were already 5 minutes ahead of me, I simply ate what I received. About the worst spinach pie I've ever had.

I stopped in for a quick breakfast at 10am on a Wednesday. I got a nice tattooed lady. I told her I was on the way to a funeral and I just wanted a quick short stack, bacon and water and hot chocolate before I actually sat down. She came back quickly with the hot chocolate. The diner has a real earthy old city diner feel to it. The staff is nice but tough Philly. I get a kick out of it. It adds to the ambiance. She came back with my meal but didn't bring my water. Two waitresses chatted to each other. My waitress was MIA. I asked one waitress for ice water. She came right away. Original waitress gave me my bill and I left. In and out in 30 minutes or less. Not bad. Food was typical diner food. Good but not excellent. It hit the spot. That's what I wanted.

What a wonderful diner! It's small so it can get crowded but if you come with a large party, there are a few areas where they can throw together a few tables to accommodate a lot of people. My experience here was amplified by one of the bus-boys who was incredibly friendly and funny sliding across booths and telling us funny stories he's witnessed in his time working there. Understand that this place is 24/7 so whenever you're hungry, remember this is open. If you order a salad (well, not all salads, I know the House salad has none of these), you will be in for a treat because they make home-made croutons that are both soft and crunchy at the same time! (And delicious too!) It's hard to explain but when you get your mouth around one of these home-made croutons, you'll know what I'm talking about. One generous friend at my table allowed me to try a bite of his pancakes and it was like eating a piece of heaven, lathered in butter and syrup... My Caesar salad had plenty of fresh romaine lettuce and came with the dressing on the side so I could control the amount. Another friend had a Monte Cristo and was in euphoria by the time he finished, and another ordered a house salad which was, honestly, the most outlanding house salad I've ever seen come from a diner. It had tons of extra veggies, olives, and was overall huge!

Service here is friendly (for a diner)! I visited late with some friends because we had been on the road for hours and just needed some sustenance. Half of the party got breakfast food and the other two got salads. We all got the homemade chicken pastini soup. Overall, this diner gets an A for effort--I loved the chicken noodle soup. It was really well-seasoned and everyone at the table liked it. The pancakes were super-fluffy and the Monte Cristo had the biggest piece of French toast that I have ever seen. The salads really are sumptuous. The caesar salad had the good kind of croutons--firm, but not break your teeth hard, with a nice fluffy center. I ordered the house salad because I wasn't very hungry and I was expecting a dinky excuse of a salad (because I always feel like that kind of salad is an excuse to slack off), but I was completely surprised at the size and amount of stuff that was thrown into the salad--onion, tomatoes, bell peppers, carrots, and olives. The dressing was pretty good, though wayyyyyy too oily for me. There was also a bad tomato in my salad, but it was small. I was the only one at the table who couldn't finish my meal, because I completely underestimated the size.

We went this morning for breakfast. Very friendly service and a giant menu! But man - they stick it to you on prices! $2.00 each for coffee; and about $10 each for breakfast. All in was $30 for breakfast and tip; which is NUTS!! So three stars - the waitress cracked me up, food was hot and fast, but $30 for breakfast? Do they have a different menu M-F?

had breakfast here on a saturday. it was very busy, and we were seated at the counter. i love sitting at a counter at a diner, it makes it feel real to me and i like that my server doesn't have to go far or run around. our food was great, no complaints! the potatoes were superb and my fruit was fresh. pancakes were nice and fluffy, coffee was endless!!! the bill wasnt too high either. i loved our waitress, she was attentive when we needed her to be. i think all the hype about the movie being filmed here is a little too much. selling movie t-shirts will hopefully go away soon. it takes away a little from the atmosphere i think. Maybe they should spend the $ from the shirt sales on renovating the bathrooms. that was probably the ugliest, most decrepit bathroom i have ever stepped into. also, i tipped on my credit card and they never input it into the system. i dont like that you pay at the front cashier. i left a really good tip for my waitress and it never went through. most restaurants the server takes the payments and puts in the tips into the computer. i can pretend it was a one time thing but when i called to have it corrected they basically didnt care that she didnt get her money. i wanted her to get her tip, so i drove back another day, and she wasnt there. i gave her money to someone who said they were the manager. i hope she got it, i am not convinced. i'd go back but hopefully i would bring cash next time, and maybe when its not so busy.

I used to come to this diner years ago when I was in high school. It was ok...not good but ok. Came here for the first time a few weeks back for a little late night after drinking meal. No more blue haired 80 year old chronic tabacco user waitresses ( kind of missed them a little). However the staff was efficient and funny to boot. Look, some may say unprofessional but at 2 in the morning ,with a little buzz on it was entertaining and they made me chuckle a few times. The food? Not bad....not great but somewhat enjoyable. Look, it's 2am diner food. It was much better than the horrible experience at another diner (see Melrose review). I dont understand people who give 5 stars to mediocre diners though. Your standards are way too low.

Before you ask, no I didn't see the movie!!!! As an Eagles fan, I just couldn't do it. That being said, onto the Llanerch. I LOVE the greasy spoon feel of this place. It takes you back to a time when the waitress would come up and ask "What ya having doll" The food was above average, even if I ended up wearing a good amount of butter!!! If it were just food alone I would've given the place 3 stars/ Our waiter Robert (sorry if I'm messing up your name buddy) is what garnered the fourth star for the place. i LOVE people with personality, and his was out of this world. So much so that we ordered hot chocolate and sat there laughing with him almost an hour before we remembered to order. Top the night off with a spirited but respectful religious debate and a food fight, what more can a guy ask for after the bars close!!!!!

A fine greasy spoon. But don't expect much beyond a late night self-deprecating food binge or an early morning runny egg.

We have been coming to this dinner for about 2 years. Probably once a month. Today was probably the last time. We asked for food that wasnt on the menu....an egg white omelet. Basic. It was mediocre. That wasn't the biggest turn off. Our service was awful. I get it. It's a diner. In Philly. You gotta be a little tough. But talking about the most recent cat fight between servers and how that "bit*h scratched me". Or sharing your last relationship drama, or how she isn't making any money. Then! She dropped the F BOMB a couple of times at our table. Really? When did we get the comfortable that you talk to me like we're on the streets. I'm ok without that stress over breakfast. Plenty of other amazing diners in Philadelphia that I would much rather indulge in.

Everything is good, but about $2 more than it should be. Even more annoying than the too-high prices is the lazy breakfast shift manager. The waitresses are busting their butts while he goes between watching the TV and reading the paper. Periodic criticisms of the wait staff are the only interruptions to his day. Give that man a coffee pot and put him to work. Seriously, I think that lazy **ss is why we're shifting over to Mary's Diner.

I haven't been here in a bit, but we stopped by on a Friday night around 6PM to have dinner with my wife, as I'm a big fan of breakfast and usually the food is great here. I'm not sure what's happened to this place, but disappointed doesn't even scratch the surface. It was not busy at all, and that should have been my warning. I ordered eggs over easy with bacon, home fries, and toast. The potatoes were extremely dry and hard, like they had been sitting on the grill since breakfast. My eggs were also undercooked, although I get sometimes that happens with over easy eggs. My wife got a grilled cheese with french fries. She had two different types of french fries mixed together, and it was apparent that one of them had been left overs from a previous order because they were dry and stale. Our server was completely uninterested in actually serving us. She brought the food promptly, but when setting the plates down the pickle on my wife's plate slipped off and into her lap. She apologized but didn't ask, nor make any effort to replace the pickle. The server came by once and asked if we needed anything else, which we didn't. When we were done eating (the potatoes were still on my plate) she asked if we needed anything else again, when we responded no she quickly got us our bill and left. It seems like this place stopped offering good service and food and decided to ride the wave of having a movie film one scene in their diner. All the servers who were standing around chatting and doing nothing while we ate (which almost made me uncomfortable like they were watching us eat) were wearing shirts advertising the movie. It was two years ago and it's no longer a claim to fame! Start serving your customers and hire a cook that cares! Again, I've eaten here in the past and never had any issues. It just seems like the owners stopped caring when this movie was filmed and is just trying to stay relevant instead of driving great food and service as their staple. Disappointed.

I practically grew up eating here! This was the main place I went to with friends in middle school and high school. I'm not sure if management changed or if I was in on and "off night" but the food was nowhere near what I remember it being! I was there with a friend. I ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup and a bagel with cream cheese. My friend ordered a frozen hot chocolate at my recommendation (I lead a much healthier lifestyle these days but I used to come here just for these drinks!) and cheese fries. I was horrified when my friend received his frozen hot chocolate. I remember it having an almost slushie consistency, finely blended ice and a super chocolatey flavor. What he received appeared to be water with huge, whole ice cubes and about an 1" of chocolate syrup at the bottom. It tasted worse than it looked. Chocolate flavor was nowhere in sight unless you literally drank the chocolate syrup by itself. I politely asked the waitress to remake it. The second version did a better job at breaking up 2 or 3 chunks of ice but just as disgusting as the first. A $5 cup of ice and chocolate syrup! My soup came out shortly after. 1) The cup was half empty. 2) There were about a total of 4 or 5 noodles, 3 chunks of celery and zero chicken. 3) The soup was cold at best. 4) ZERO flavor. It essentially tasted like dirty water. Sad to say the saltine crackers had more taste to them than the soup and I have a VERY sensitive palate to any and all seasonings, especially salt. My bagel was cold by the time it came out and unevenly cooked. The prepackaged Philadelphia cream cheese was my saving grace. My friend's cheese fries were horrid. He LOVES salt, I mean LOVES it. Well, I don't know what in the world they use for cheese there but it tasted primarily like salt and was as thick as glue. Even my friend was appalled. I used to get cheese fries every time I came here and I remember the cheese being smooth and creamy. Oh and the fries were soggy. Not one fry was above the level of apple sauce mushiness. No variation in texture whatsoever to the dish, at all. Because I have so many fond memories of this place I will probably end up trying the food again at some point but I would probably only return if someone else was paying. I think the main attraction of this place is that it's one of the only restaurants I know of in the area that's 24 hours. This makes it a prime spot for all of the DelCo drunks. They sat us directly behind the only other patrons in the restaurant and the entire time the woman behind us who was clearly drunk was cursing, screaming and overall obnoxious. She must have known some of the staff because they too were participating in her drunken conversations and were discussing things I can only hope they'd only discuss if they were friends. Either way, it was very unpleasant. Our waitress, who was new, was friendly and prompt with service but I should hope so in a restaurant with a total of 4 customers. Part of the problem with this restaurant is the fact that it is way, way too broad. I know diners often have a variety of food but I'm sure that this place takes the cake in menu size. It might be something those with bland palates savor because of the "variety," but it likely leaves a lack of focus and probably attributes to having even the simplest of dishes left tasting sub par at best. I can't even imagine how a busy dinner service would go if the customers ordered items all over the menu! Awful. My heart is broken over this place. I BEGGED my friend to come here! I spent many nights in here many times a week for close to a decade and now you might have to drag me here.

Ahhh, it had been something like 13 years, but pulling into the micro-lot at the Big L was like coming home. To a house where they got a giant flashing message lsd sign to welcome you and let you know they picked up some beer... (***edit-- i caught the the typo-- lsd/led-- but i think it's actually more descriptive this way***) It's taken me some time to write this review (as one particular yelper will know), because it took me some time to digest my experience. The Llanerch was diner-perfection, as always (and oh, how happy I am to see that some things really never do change). The bump in the road of our happy dining experience came when my co-diner took a 45 minute nap in the parking lot before we could go in to eat (i read every single story on espn mobile. no lie. every one. i was even quizzing myself and looking up stats to test myself by the end, there). Then, we walked in, were immediately and cheerfully seated, whisked over two icy glasses of water and a couple of menus, and left to ruminate on our dining pleasure. It is precisely at this point that my co-diner turned to her right, (i'm assuming so that the genteel older ladies taking advantage of the fabulous, home-style lunch/dinner specials could have a better view), and proceeded to spew vomit profusely all over the floor and the edge of our booth. I immediately jumped up and got a bucket from the distressed and extremely helpful busgirl, and after a few excruciating minutes (in reality probably only 45 seconds or so, but oh, so very long), my friend was empty and the lovely busgirl came back with a mop and a few towels and we cleaned it up. Why i LOVE the Llanerch and always will: after a decent interval to allow my friend time to compose herself, the waitress approached to see if we were going or staying. when my friend ordered what was essentially a hungry man's special, she didn't bat an eye (or drop any funny/sarcastic/veiled comment-- commendable). The Llanerch is a stalwart for a reason-- quality service and quality food (and breakfast 24 hours a day!). I will always love the Big L, and will cherish my journeys in that direction for the opportunities they afford to drop back in and reminisce over those hazy days on hawk hill... n.b. - i include such a personal anecdote in the review because i think it speaks to both the quality of the service AND (perhaps more importantly) what you should potentially be prepared for when you go there (and this was at 2:00 in the afternoon, by the way)...

I would only come here when everything else is closed down. The convenience of being open 24/7 is nice but the food is just bad. Although it has improved in recent years, still can't say I like it.

Hands down the best breakfast in the area. I have been here multiple times and have always ordered breakfast, it's so delicious I don't want anything else! Prices are decent and you get a lot of food. It can get very crowded sometimes but it is well worth the wait. And speaking of wait, the wait staff is sub-par, a lot of times they have a lot of tables and just cover the basics as in taking your order. I've had to flag down my waitress/waiter a few times but that's perfectly fine with me because the food is phenomenal.

Very solid. I always get breakfast at a diner, so I can't speak much to anything other than that, but I have been going to "the Big L" for years. I have eaten there at 4 am after a long night out, at 7 am to kickoff a productive Saturday and everywhere in between. Their omelets are really good. The ingredients are incorporated, not like the egg taco you get at most places (HATE when they just plop all the ingredients in the middle, they all fall out). Home fries are good, but you gotta get them well-done. Really good coffee too, Seattle's Best I believe. It's a diner, so nothing you have to go there for in particular. But it's clean and the food is consistent. That's all I need in a diner.

This is not a wannabe; this is not a prettified diner with metalflake red upholstery and servers wearing caps. Llanerch Diner is an Old School* diner -- open 24 hours a day and with late-night smoking permitted. But with the vintage, hard-edged atmosphere and reasonable prices come some drawbacks, notably iffy food quality. On this last visit I ordered pancakes that arrived flavorless, mealy and bright yellow. Other items are hit-and-miss, but the menu sure is varied. From waffles to moussaka, wraps to stuffed mushroom caps (hmm ... maybe on a return visit), there's got to be a few items on the menu that will appeal to you any time of day or night. The outside of Llanerch Diner looks like something on a misprinted page in the back of Architectural Record, but that's part of its charm -- just as how during peak hours the place can be raucous and bursting at the seams, with the bonus of a small parking lot that can be an exciting experience. Llanerch Diner sure makes me yearn for a road trip, though. *It now serves beer and wine ... a concession in one way and an acknowledgement in another. Glass half-empty, half-full. ;^)

My son and I went here for lunch today...The table we were seated at was still dirty and sticky. The waitress had mediocre service, The host (owner)kept yelling throughout the diner to the workers. He screamed about a chef salad to go across the restaurant. Food was ok.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't come here solely because it was featured in the movie Silver Linings Playbook, but I was working SO close by so I couldn't resist. Food was decent, I had the beef gyro platter and I had no complaints. I dined with 2 other co-workers and overall we had nothing negative to say. Is the diner exploiting its appearance in the movie? Sure - but if it works then who am I to judge? Did I have the opportunity to sit in the 'famous' Silver Linings Playbook' booth? Nah, but that didn't effect my rating. Overall I'd come back if I was in the neighborhood and looking for a quick diner meal.

A few weeks ago, I thought it would be fun to take my mom around the Upper Darby, Pa area to see where the movie 'Silver Linings Playbook' starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence was filmed. It's pretty easy to find the diner and we arrived early. Lucky for us, the hostess led us right to the booth where the movie was shot and I sat where Bradley did and my mom where Jennifer sat. There is a plaque on the wall about the movie. That was neat. I wanted a meatless meal because it was Friday. I should add that they had lovely examples of three main fish meals on display in the lobby-covered with plastic wrap. I decided to go with the asparagus and Swiss cheese omelet and my Mom went for a pork chop meal. She got a nice salad first, but said her pork chop, though nicely brown, was a little tough. Personally I don't hardly ever order chops as I have trouble cooking them myself. The other food was fair for her as she said the mashed potatoes could have creamier. The menu had the typical diner fare from a choice of breakfast food to various platters. Mom was looking for steak, but didn't see it on the menu other than sliced sirloin or something like that. They sell mugs and t-shirts with the name of the movie on them...white on black. The day we were there, they had no mugs and only a few t-shirts. I bought one that was too small just to have it , But I may exchange it soon. The prices for the souvenirs were fairly priced. The wait staff wore the shirts too. If you like diner food, go ahead and stop in. The prices aren't bad...$10 or so each for a meal.

    (3)
  • Liam M.

The food was pretty good though the prices a bit steep. Definitely expensive for a diner and more than likely due to the fact that it was used for Silver Linings. The hype in there about the movie is a little bit unnecessary and you can tell they are milking it for all it's worth.

I decided to give this place another chance since my awful experience in 2008 when I first moved to the Philadelphia area. I ordered the 69th Street Sampler which was almost $17. They didn't include any Jalapeno Poppers like stated in the description as well as no sauces. No Marinara for the mozzarella sticks.. No Ranch.. NOTHING! The only thing that wasn't soggy was the chicken wings which were supposto be buffalo but wasn't. Sorry Llanerch- Silver Linings Playbook didn't help the quality of food.. Just the exposure.. Never again!

Decent food as far as diners go. The main problem with this place is they seem to get very easily overwhelmed if it is the least bit busy. When we went today, very slow to take our order, and half our party got their food 20 minutes before the rest of us. Waiter threw the kitchen under the bus for it. Either way, totally unacceptable. Have had other (similar) problems when also busy. Food was good, though. But with all the other diners in the area, probably not worth going back anymore. Oh and the rest rooms are straight out of a third world bus station.

Absolutely vile. Overkill and dramatic to use that term? No. I'll skip to the food and try to tie together our most recent experience yesterday at the Llanerch Diner. * Not busy. Maybe 5 tables. * Approximately 5:30 on a Sunday early evening The menu is like many diners. Tons of stuff with nothing done to good standard. The prices are way out there on many items. How about a bacon double cheese burger for $17.50? At a diner. Are you kidding? That's a price I would expect to pay for room service in a casino or nice hotel. Though I know better than to order real food from a diner I went with stuffed mushrooms and Salmon. So many places overcook Salmon that I usually request it medium. I was specific to waitress that I would prefer it a little undercooked in the center. Wife was smart, she ordered breakfast fare. You can't mess that up too badly, right? My entree came with soup and a salad. Not a big salad eater, so I figured while I ate my stuffed mushrooms and soup, wife could have the salad. 20 minutes goes by and neither arrive. Waitress makes an appearance with.. you guessed it, the main entrees. Ummm? Oh well, it is what it is. Asked about the mushrooms, soup and salad and she fumbled some answer and off she went. The omelet across the table looks rubbery but the wife says its passable and she is hungry. I touch the salmon with my fork and it falls apart. Its so dry and overcooked (yet still slimy) that it is inedible. The green beans are these soggy old things from a can marinated in some type of oily soup stock. The broccoli is hard but not from a properly cooked. crisp perspective. Its old. It tastes like I imagine the grass in my yard would taste. Now I am a little aggravated. I turn in my seat facing the center area where the manager is milling around. I sit there for five minutes like that and nobody even looks our way. The waitress finally comes our way (still no soup, salad or appetizer) and asks if everything is okay. Sometimes it hard to grind your teeth and remain polite. I asked if the manager would come over. I explained our experience up until that point and pointed to the green beans which was this oily mess of sogginess. He focuses on them with a quizzical look, offers no apologies and takes them to the kitchen. At this point, My wife and I just laugh from a mix of bewilderment and with the realization that this is going to be money wasted. We should have just billed a couple burgers at home. The waitress comes back again (still; nothing in her hand) and asks me if I want something else. I ask for a standard diner fare. Honey dipped fried chicken. Hey!! out comes the stuffed mushrooms. No I am really smiling at this surreal experience. The caps are 4" in diameter, stuffed 3" high and there is four of them. They fill an entree plate. I already know this is gonna be a lesson in quantity over quality. Did I mention they are smothered in melted cheese? 99% breading, and maybe(?) 1% crab. Perhaps it was just a crab flavored salt. This is where the word VILE started coming to mind. Bear with me, the meal is almost over. I eat three of the caps because I am starving. By the time the chicken comes out (which is a putrid grey/gold color, I sh-t you not) I am full. I ask for a box to take the stuff home. - We never got our soup. - We never got our salad. - The manager never even thought to apologize. - When I went to the front to pay, the manager was so engrossed in talking to the waitresses, he didn't even look towards the register. Again no apology or acknowledgement. What a DB. The best part was the bill. My wife's feta and spinach omelet was $12. Yes $12. Wow. Total came to $40. Overpriced garbage food coupled with lousy service and tired decor. Let us all know how that formula works for you guys. This is another candidate for a Gordon Ramsey Kitchen Nightmare's recipe.

Here's what I like about the Llanerch Diner: 1. Friendly, fast service. The waitresses have always been polite and attentive. When I first moved to the area, one of them informed me of the fastest way to get to my university. I really appreciated her guidance. 2. Delicious breakfast food. I generally order French toast or pancakes with a side of either eggs or sausage. Their sausage is particularly yummy (and this recommendation comes from a person who doesn't eat a lot of meat). 3. It's within walking distance of my apartment. Only two blocks away! This means I can avoid their parking lot on a busy weekend morning. 4. The other patrons. People-watching is one of my interests, and the late night crowd never fails to provide entertainment. I do wish the prices were not quite so high. Paying ten dollars for breakfast seems a little excessive for a grad student, so I try to limit my visits to this neighborhood landmark .

Beer goggles is a phenomenon that can also make diner food look attractive. Trust me, I know this all too well. Between going to college in this area and living nearby for a couple of years, I've made more than a few less-than-sober excursions to the Llanerch in the wee hours of the morning. I'm not proud of it, mind you, but so it goes. For the most part, the food here is bland and, if you come here after 2 a.m., there's a good chance you'll see a fight break out and the cops swarming upon the diner. The place can get packed and the college and high school patrons can be annoying (having been one, I also know this to be a fact.) So, why would I even consider giving it four stars? First of all, it's a part of my history. I've been coming here since high school and have many memories here. For instance, one time we sat at a table for nearly half an hour waiting for our server to arrive. We decided to wait it out, for some reason, no matter how long it took. When she finally showed up, she was drunk. She had been drinking at a bar, watching the Chicago Bulls complete their three-peat in '97. Amazing. There are also two things that the Llanerch did very well: waffles and ice cream, and their chicken cutlet sandwich. Since then, the place has changed owners and both the menu and the interior have been overhauled but this diner will always hold special place in my cholesterol-filled heart.

The best diner available to suburbanites of the Main Line... and though not saying much (the only other option is the near-clone Manella's) it is still a great place to go, anytime of nice, for consistently decent (read: average) food. The standout amongst the plethora of items they serve has to be their breakfast menu-- available all times of day obviously-- and the tastiest and most enjoyable items you can get at 3am... which I find is the best time to visit Llanerch.

Been coming to the Llanerch since 1972, when a SJU student... If you come here expecting a 5-star meal, you're naturally gonna be disapponted. It's a diner, always has been, and serves good basic food -- not perfect, not exquisite, but always good and always tasty. Have never experienced bad service there, ever, from 30+ years ago to yesterday The fact that it's now a movie star hasn't really hurt it in any way I can see; the little souvenir offerings are innocuous and innoffensive. Of particular note are, believe it or not, the snapper soup, which is really quite tasty, and french fries with gravy -- a Llanerch standard and, legend has it, an SJU invention. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Like breathing? Well I do and that's why we stopped going to the Llanerch Diner. Unlike Philadelphia, Delaware County is not smoke free and the Llanerch Diner is too small to have an effective non-smoking section. The food was okay, but I can get a much better experience at other larger more modern diners.

The Llanerch Diner still delivers the late night eggs after drinking happiness I've come to love over the course of my 30ish years. I grew up smoking and drinking coffee in diners (RIP Val-Rio Diner) and the Llanerch diner delivers. That is, they deliver greasy, unpretentious, eggs & bacon w/ flavorless diner coffee @ 3am (and I mean that in a good way!) Bonus points go to my ability to get a grilled corn muffin in the middle of the night. To my scrapple fans; skip it! The slabs are way too thick and really soggy, but itsok, that's why the heavens created bacon!

We came all the way here from Newtown because we wanted to check out the filming location from Silver Linings Playbook. Normally something like that would be a "one and done" thing for us and we would never return. Not the case here. This place is AWESOME. Service was great, food absolutely delicious. Best coffee and breakfast we have had in a very long time. We will definitely return on a regular basis. Absolutely delicious.

I'm not sure if it's the new management or the fact that I'm not in college anymore, but Llanerch is not the same. It used to be my favorite diner. The food used to be cheap and the waiters were interesting, but now it feels like they're trying too hard. I mean, it's diner food! It doesn't have to be great. The thing is the food hasn't changed much, but it's now served on a fancier plate with parsley on top. Is that really worth the extra $3-4 for an omelette? Even the new fluorescent lights give me a headache now. I'll admit the new waiters are nicer, but I miss some of the old ones. Like the one who used to slam your check down when she brought your food? I kinda miss her.

hands down best diner ever, other diners aren't even close. other diners should go to this diner and see how it's done and i'm from jersey, where all they have is diners. llanerch puts them to shame. the eggs are great, the prices are great, the french toast is orgasmic. i get bananas on mine. i haven't tried any real food, only breakfast- but i'm sure that's decent seeing as how the breakfast is beyond good.

What can I say of this diner. Many nights of my childhood were wasted and spent here afterhours to keep the party going. I remember my grand-mom taking me here for breakfast or lunch when i was younger. I also remember going here on sunday mornings for breakfast. I also remember the old owners who when found out my grandmom had died gave us free breakfast as a way to console us. This is a diner and yelp is a review site. The food here is decent, the service hit or miss and the parking ample enough for it. Just go here and remember this is a diner and you won't have any issues. Would you order crab cakes at a diner? No. Would a burger, fries and milk shake at a diner be good? Yes. Again If you just stick to Fried, grilled or Breakfast items you can NOT go wrong with this place. Again this place had Disco fries and is the place that I learned to enjoy fries with brown Gravy on them. Another reason I'm fat.

One time a friend of mine ordered a cup of lemonade here. he ended up hating it so much that he threw it against the wall outside. due to some unknown phenomena, the cup and it's contents managed to be so congealed and syrupy that it's actually remained stuck to the wall for over 3 months. literally, my friends and I were so transfixed (and suburbia was so boring) that we came here all summer long to keep track of it. But this place is the way your run of the mill traditional diner should be. greasy food that is either average or below, bottomless cups of coffee, odd late night regulars, and really good pie. in short it's the best place for memories that should only be experienced long past 2 AM.

I just had the most unprofessional and unpleasant experience you can have in a food establisment. Today I went into the Llanerch for breakfast and I am a regular customer 2 to 3 times a month. My servers name was Eleanor I called her over when I found a used sugar packet in my home fries. She said OMG let me get you another order and brought me out a new order. Elanor said to me I am no charging you for that. I am thinking to myself that was nice how she handled that. I am ready to leave and I see the check. I look at it and its the same price as I would pay for the dish normally. The home fries were included with my eggs in the breakfast what Eleanor did was add a line item for home fries and no charge it. I was so upset. I asked Eleanor didn't you say you were no charging me. She said yes. I asked her were the homefries included with the breakfast and she said yes. I said what are you no charging me for? She replied I am not allowed to refund a customer there is no manager here. If there was a -5 stars I would have given it in this case. Make sure your dish is clean of sugar packets.
